Why your gut feeling is always right

Babsy helps parents in many situations and thus creates great job opportunities for childcare workers, hobby sitters and hobby-grannies. We’ve been doing this since the start in autumn 2018 after the project, “born” as an internal start-up by an insurer, was eliminated in the final round and was no longer financed. However, the basics had been laid and the two-person team Andrea and Sophia did not want to leave the parents and sitters who had already registered “hanging”. They gave us a lot of information of what they expected from a platform. A plan was needed, but without big finances with the small fee idea? What do you do when everyone tells you that you will fail?

Wondering why no one had tried it before.

So why not found an association, the booking fees as donations can support the association in sustainable and healthy growth.

Said and done.

The association was founded immediately and new comrades-in-arms were quickly found among friends who wanted to help. And Babsy was not alone with his idea, other fellow campaigners were also quickly identified. For Babsy, however, it was clear from the start that when it comes to childcare, good cooperation is needed, and that competitive thinking is out of place. Various fellow suppliers advertised around us, but little by little there were fewer competitors – they always failed on the same points: the idea is not profitable in the long term or the costs are too high. Profit cannot and must not be the priority in childcare.

With the idea of founding a non-profit organizaton, we were spot on. Without financial pressure, working is different. In general, volunteer work is also a great opportunity to test things out in pilot projects and try out new ideas. This is how Babsy actually came about together with around 300 parents and sitters who were registered with us and still are, in the meantime there have been a few more. Babsy just tried to bring together all the wishes, ideas and suggestions as to what a perfect support platform should look like that covers the two important pillars of security and flexibility in equal measure. We already had a gut feeling there with whom cooperation made sense and with whom it didn’t. Just recently, when a competitor offered his business to us, whose actions had already been conspicuous – let’s say aggressive and lacked the necessary ethics – after whose examination we unanimously found that there was a reason why this cooperation did not come about. So we had to find out here that the first impression had not deceived us here either. Sometimes things just look very attractive at first glance, but if you take a closer look you can form your opinion better. And so we at Babsy always make decisions in the interests of the parents and childcare workers, who are our top priority. From you – for you is the motto.
